I don't have a tip jar for myself, so please consider the opportunity to give a gift to the people of Darfur, Sudan:

  • World Vision in Sudan

  • "As many as 10,000 people have died monthly since the conflict began in Darfur, Sudan. Brutal ethnic conflict has driven over 2 million people into homelessness".

    Spotlight on Darfur 1

Welcome to Spotlight on Darfur, which contains reports and views on the Darfur genocide crisis from a diverse group of people. We do not represent any one group or organisation and all share an intention to keep the spotlight on Darfur. This is the first of a monthly series. All links will open in the same new window. And on to the posts...

    The Situation

Ingrid Jones of Sudan Watch has provided a summary of views of the Arab militia leader Musa Hilal, who is suspected of being behind many of the recent ethnic-cleansing style attacks on African villages. She also has a breakdown on the different groups in the conflict, and helpful maps in her post Abyei Boundary Commission Report.

Expat Teacher of Page 132 looks at life on the ground in Darfur from two different perspectives in Return the Spotlight to Darfur. One perspective is from a medical professional that describes the barbaric treatment of the Janjaweed against women in Darfur. The other is about a Roman Catholic priest that encourages the Sudanese Christians to keep loving their enemy.

Restless Mania gives us a link to the transcript of a 60 Minutes Special on Darfur, and also has an update on the bandit attacks on the African Union troops in Darfur Related.

Tim of blogicus examines the death of Sudan's First Vice-President, John Garang who was killed in a helicopter crash in southern Sudan on his way back from Uganda. Tim gives the background on the "rebel leader" who came to power and asks Was Sudan Leader John Garang's Death an Accident?

Team Swap notes that God is not a single issue God and focuses on more than one situation in the world. He also asks questions about John Garang's death, and looks at how his wife is becoming a strong voice in Sudan, in Don't Forget Darfur.

Sahil Mahtani of Harvard International Digest analyses the investments in oil in Sudan and ascertains the complicity of firms involved in Blood Money and the Moral Moebius Strip.

Eddie from Live from the FDNF proposes that using diplomacy to convince Egypt to take a greater role in ending the violence in Darfur can benefit all involved and gives the reasons why in The X-Factor: Egypt.

    Taking Action

Mike from Pie and Coffee reports on a group of New Englanders who fasted and demonstrated outside the Embassy of Sudan for a week in August. They raised awareness, raised a little money for direct relief ... and fixed up the Embassy's lawn. The report, with photos, is in his post Darfur Fast in DC–Day 3.

Eugene from Coalition for Darfur responds to another blogger's report on the experiences of a humanitarian volunteer who went to Darfur in June and what she saw. Eugene asks some very good questions on what it takes to get internet attention on Darfur in What It Is All About. He provides some very useful links too.

Eternal Revolution describes how his church's Christmas giving plan turned into something more - and what that meant and continues to mean for a refugee camp in Sudan. He explains how it happened in Real Following.

Jeannine of Sharing Life is mindful of the ever-changing headlines of the MSM and how some things disappear from the media. She comments on the reality in Sudan in Who Remembers Darfur?

My own post fits in here, in which I report on the "Hotel Rwanda" star who is taking action, the latest Time Magazine article (Sept. 5) on Darfur, and how a suburban Dad in California has started a national movement. It's all in Don Cheadle Launches "Live for Darfur", Time Magazine Weighs In, & So Does a Suburban Dad.
