I don't have a tip jar for myself, so please consider the opportunity to give a gift to the people of Darfur, Sudan:

  • World Vision in Sudan

  • "As many as 10,000 people have died monthly since the conflict began in Darfur, Sudan. Brutal ethnic conflict has driven over 2 million people into homelessness".

Scene and Herd: Science & Christianity, Terri Schiavo, and Happenings

Science and Christianity Showcase: Christians and science - where are we at? There is going to be a showcase of posts here at Allthings2all under the general topic heading Science and Christianity. Interested? See this post for info on what it's about and where to send your entry. This will be similar to some of the other carnivals that some of you have participated in. Any Christian blogger can submit a post, and it can be an old or a new piece that you've written. I'd like to gather links to some posts on Science and Christianity in one place and am keen to see what other Christian bloggers have to say.

Xenotransplants: following on from my post on xenotransplants is this biblical perspective from scientist Martin LaBar at Sun and Shield.

Conversations with God: Communication with God - a vital aspect of the Christian life. Is prayer a matter of chanting or using a formula? Or is it something freeflowing? Rebecca Writes gives an interesting perspective on the prayer of Jabez. Have you millstoned a child to God? promptings has a poetic apologetic on why children should bring the earaches to God.

The Point of It All: "In particular, the cross revolutionizes our attitudes to God, to ourselves, to other people both inside and outside the Christian fellowship, and to the grave problems of violence and suffering." Read the rest at Mr. Standfast.

Terri Schiavo: Still on the the subject of prayer - today (March 8) the Florida Legislative Session begins and is expected to consider Bill HB701. This bill would make it unlawful for a court to order the removal of nutrition and hydration from a person like Terri Schiavo who cannot speak for themselves. Please pray for these decision makers.
A former attorney for the Schindlers has spoken out about his own friendship with Terri:

"She responded to gentle requests if given time and patience, such as lifting her right leg (three times out of four requests, the other time she lifted her left leg instead). While she does not have consistent control over her eyes to blink or look this way or that, she has excellent control over her breathing, diaphram and voice, and will vocalize in various patterns if asked. While trying to work out a yes/no system with sounds, Terri initially answered the question "Terri, are you ten feet tall" by moaning twice, which is the response for "No," then she spontaneously whispered the word "No" in response to the question "Terry, are you purple?"
At that point I abandoned the sounding system and started trying to teach her to say "Yeah" as best as she could. Bob Schindler has several recordings of her sort of saying the word "Yeah" shortly after that."

Last night I saw a documentary on television about a young man who collapsed shortly after winning the NZ Super-heavyweight Boxing Title. He is now a tetraplegic. He was shown on camera, interacting with his wife and the film crew. Initially his wife was told he would be a permanet vegetable. He isn't. In fact his responses are very much like those described for Terri Schiavo. Except of course no-one is trying to have him starved to death.

Christian Carnival: If you missed it this week's Christian Carnival - Soap Opera Version is up at Crossroads and Diane has done a fantastic job. Among the topics are infant baptism, reconciliation and resolving conflict, the immune system, humanism, slavery, and Million Dollar Baby.

Sending Trackbacks: If you don't have Haloscan or another trackback feature on your blog you can still send trackbacks using The Wizbang Trackback Pinger or Simple Tracks.
